v3.6.0
RELEASE
September 27, 2026
#### Config
- Reworked big parts of the config:
- Config Fields are now named using the camelCase (e.g. `trimChance`) instead of the snake_case (e.g. `trim_chance`) naming scheme
- The snake_case naming scheme still works tho, such that old configs won't break. Config files will be automatically migrated when the mod saves (most likely when saving via config screen)
- Config Versioning, Deprecation and Migration:
- The config is now versioned using a new `_version` field. Do not modify this field, unless you know what you're doing, as it's important for config migration
- Config Fields from previous config schema's may now be deprecated. This means, the mod will continue to deserialize and load these config fields from the config file, however the mod won't save these config fields anymore. Deprecation is necessary for config migration:
- Config Fields from previous config schema's may now be migrated. This means, deprecated config fields will now, where applicable, be automatically migrated to newer alternatives
- Lots of internal refactoring
#### Improved Trim Filtering
- Replaced `material_filter` and `pattern_filter` with `trimFilter`
- These two separate filters were quite limiting, due to being separate. You weren't able to handle anything, that requires both trim material and pattern. For example, you couldn't blacklist single specific trims, without blacklisting entire trim materials / patterns
- `trimFilter` combines these filters into one, allowing for both all previously possible behavior and some new possibilities (for example blacklisting single specific armor trims, without having to blacklist entire trim materials / patterns)
- See the according [wiki page](https://github.com/Imajo24I/Naturally-Trimmed/wiki/Config-%E2%80%90-3.6.0#trim-filter--trimfilter) for documentation about this config field
- Due to being too 'complex', this new field is currently only possible to edit via the config file, and not in the screen.
- `material_filter` and `pattern_filter` have been deprecated with automatic migration to `trimFilter`
- Removed `predefined_trims`
- The new `trimFilter` also has the capability to do this, so `predefined_trims` is no longer necessary
- See the according [wiki page](https://github.com/Imajo24I/Naturally-Trimmed/wiki/Config-%E2%80%90-3.6.0#trim-filter--trimfilter) for documentation about `trimFilter`
- `predefined_trims` has been deprecated with automatic migration to `trimFilter`
- Removed `trim_system`
- No longer necessary since `predefined_trims` has been removed
- `trim_system` has been deprecated as it's needed in `predefined_trims`'s automatic migration
- Replaced `texture_validation_filtering` with `missingTextureFiltering`
- This new config field allows configuring which strategy the mod uses to filter out missing-texture trims
- It was previously very unclear, what kind of additional filtering the mod was actually doing, for users -> this config field makes this more transparent and configurable
- See the according [wiki page](https://github.com/Imajo24I/Naturally-Trimmed/wiki/Config-%E2%80%90-3.6.0#missing-texture-filtering--missingtexturefiltering) for documentation about this config field
- Since `texture_validation_filtering` was previously used to control part of this, it has been deprecated with automatic migration to `missingTextureFiltering`
- Renamed `trim_chance` to `pieceTrimChance` (`trimMobs` config category)
- The previous name was very misleading
- Automatic Migration exists
- Inverted and renamed `noTrimsChance` to `trimChance`
- Now that `trim_chance` / `trimChance` is available, this rename (and inversion, to make the new name actually accurate) makes this config field's functionality much more clear
- Automatic Migration exists
- Fixed precautionary trimming (see `missingTextureFiltering`) being unnecessarily restrictive
- Instead of only allowing following trim combination: `(from vanilla) + (from any mod or vanilla)`, this now additionally allows for: `(from mod A) + (from mod A)`
#### Other
- Added support for 26.3
- Adjusted default config values, for trims to be rarer
- Added an `openWiki` button to the utils category of the config screen
- Updated the wiki, translations, descriptions and the README

- Updated the wiki, translations, descriptions and the README
v3.5.0
RELEASE
July 1, 2026
- Combined `material_blacklist` and `tag_whitelist_material` into a single `material_filter` config entry (same thing with the entries for trim patterns)
- These filter entries now combine the respective regex blacklist and tag whitelist into one config entry while adding some more capabilities
- These config entries support advanced configuration, including blacklisting and whitelisting and matching for regex patterns and minecraft tags.
- See the respective entry in the new wiki's config page for complete documentation
- `vanilla_only` config entry now applies independently of precautionary-filtering
- Restructured config file format
- Trim filtering config entries are now into their own config category, similar to as already in the config screen
- Created a wiki
- https://github.com/Imajo24I/Naturally-Trimmed/wiki
- Acts as a place for central user-facing documentation
- Centralizes documentation between the config file and config screen
- Structured in a versioned approach, see the [home page](https://github.com/Imajo24I/Naturally-Trimmed/wiki) for more info on this

v3.4.0
RELEASE
April 25, 2026
- Dropped support for 1.21 and 1.21.2 - 1.21.10
- The remaining versions are 1.21.1, 1.21.11 and 26.1 (all for fabric and neoforge)
- Add new `texture_validation_filtering` config entry
- A long-standing issue with this mod is missing-texture trims. These aren't caused by this mod, but are used by this mod
- While this mod already addresses this with multiple other filtering options and built-in filtering, these are all mostly just workarounds
- `texture_validation_filtering` is a new config entry that addresses this issue by concretely checking if the trim has a texture
- Other filtering options have only been precautiously filtering, this will only filter out trims that truly have no texture
- However, due to textures only being available being on the client, this also is only available on the client. On a dedicated server, the mod will fall back to other filtering options
- Updated the mod description and config entry descriptions to talk more about the missing-texture trims issue

RELEASE
April 1, 2026
- Add support for 26.1.1
- Update mc dependency, such that all current and future 26.1.x should be supported, unless explicit code changes are necessary
v3.3.0
RELEASE
March 28, 2026
- Add support for 26.1 fabric and neoforge
- Drop support for 1.20.1 and 1.20.4-1.20.6
- Due to taking way too much effort to continue to actively support and due to relatively low download counts, these versions have received a final update and will, except for maybe hotfix updates, no longer receive any more updates
- Add the vanillaOnly config entry
- This will make the mod use exclusively (except for tool trims, as the custom trim patterns are necessary there) vanilla trim materials and patterns
- This is intended as an easy workaround for when trims with no texture appear, as they most of the times are caused by a non-vanilla trim combination
- This is intended as an easier and quicker alternative to the blacklists
- Add a config screen button in the util section, which opens the config file
- Fix crash when no trims materials or patterns are available
- Fix trims with a missing texture appearing when the mod is combined with tooltrims mod and a mod/datapack adding trim materials
- Rewritten buildscript and lots of other refactoring and cleanup in the mods source code

- Rewritten buildscript and lots of other refactoring and cleanup in the mods source code
v3.3.0
RELEASE
March 28, 2026
- Add support for 26.1 fabric and neoforge
- Drop support for 1.20.1 and 1.20.4-1.20.6
- Due to taking way too much effort to continue to actively support and due to relatively low download counts, these versions have received a final update and will, except for maybe hotfix updates, no longer receive any more updates

v3.1.0
RELEASE
October 31, 2025
- Removed individual trim applying
- The same trims will now be used for the whole armor, there is no longer a chance for multiple different trim materials or patterns on the same armor set
- From my own experience using the mod, it almost never makes sense to have different trim materials or patterns on the same armor. It only very rarely looks not bad, especially with different trim materials
- Replaced custom trim combinations with predefined trims
- The custom trim combinations system has previously been a huge time effort to fully set up, and I don't think anyone has been using it in the full extent, if at all
- The new predefined trims system will, while a lot less flexible and configurable, be actually viable to use
- Use the same trim material for the mob's equipment as for the mob's armor
- Removed pattern blacklist
- There is no use-case from the user side that I'm aware of. The default of blacklisting `trimtools` trim patterns has now been hardcoded into the mod
- Rewritten deserialization of predefined/custom trims
- Instead of first deserializing the id into an item and then using that item to get the trim material/pattern, this now deserializes the id directly into the trim material/pattern
- This means the way of specifying trim materials/patterns is now exactly the same as for vanilla
- For example, `minecraft:resin_brick` (previously valid) -> `minecraft:resin` or `resin` (now valid)
- Strikethrough the Validate Predefined Trims config button if not currently runnable
- Improved invalid config file handling
- Updated lang files and made the TrimSystem config entry's values translatable
- Quite a bit of refactoring and cleaning up the source code

- Strikethrough the Validate Predefined Trims config button if not currently runnable
- Improved invalid config file handling
- Updated lang files and made the TrimSystem config entry's values translatable
- Quite a bit of refactoring and cleaning up the source code
v3.1.0
- For example, `minecraft:resin_brick` (previously valid) -> `minecraft:resin` or `resin` (now valid)
- Strikethrough the Validate Predefined Trims config button if not currently runnable

### TLDR:
This is a major update to the mod.
It extends the functionality of the mod from just applying armor trims to armor from mobs, to applying armor trims to almost all natural armor sources.
Due to the new functionality, the old name `Mob Armor Trims` is outdated and misleading. Thus, the mod has been renamed to `Naturally Trimmed` instead.
This update also implements some long requested features, like support for the [Trimmable Tools](https://modrinth.com/datapack/trimmable-tools) and [Tool Trims](https://modrinth.com/mod/tool-trims-mod) mod and a pattern blacklist feature.
Additionally, with this update, large parts of the mod have been rewritten and revamped. This includes all of the configuration system, which now has been moved to the json5 file format using quilt parser, and a lot more.
### Full Changelog:
- Added trim loot tables feature
- All armor pieces generated by loot tables will now have a chance of having an armor trim applied
- This includes chests from all structures (for example, bastions or end cities), piglin bartering and fishing
- Added trim trades feature
- All armor pieces in villager trades will now have a chance of having an armor trim applied
- Added trim material blacklist
- This supports regex patterns
- By default, all trim tools patterns are blacklisted since they only work for tools
- A button for validating this blacklist has been added to the `Utils` tab inside the config screen
- Added support for [Trimmable Tools](https://modrinth.com/datapack/trimmable-tools) and [Tool Trims Mod](https://modrinth.com/mod/tool-trims-mod)
- When either of these mods is present, not only armor will be trimmed, but tools as well. This works for all three trimming features
- The [Tool Trims Datapack](https://modrinth.com/datapack/tool-trims) is **not** supported
- Added support for multiple armor materials inside custom trim combinations instead of just one armor material
- Rewrote the configuration system
- Revamped config layout
- Now uses the json5 file format using quilt parser instead of the toml file format using night config
- Switching to json5 allows representing custom trim combinations and the general config much better and fixes being stuck on older night config versions
- Old config files are not supported and would have to be manually migrated
- Revamped config screen
- Added settings for most of the added features in this update
- Added settings to enable/disable specific trimming features
- Improved existing `Validate Trim Combinations` button
- Fixed armor from piglins not being trimmed
- Added Fabric API as a dependency
- Removed explicit stacked armor trims support
- Rename to `Naturally Trimmed` from `Mob Armor Trims`
- Due to the new extended functionality of the mod, the old name is misleading and no longer fitting
- Relicense from MIT to GNU LGPLv3 license.
- Update mod icon

v3.0.0
RELEASE
May 2, 2025
